Sewing Themed Junk Journal

Creating this sewing-themed junk journal was enjoyable. I used vintage McCall’s Patterns, McCall’s greeting cards with envelopes for the front cover and inside pockets, and beautiful patterned fabric.

The process presented a challenge that pushed me out of my comfort zone, which is typically rooted in nature-themed artwork. I learned to explore new methods for constructing and embellishing the journal using a variety of materials, including patterned tissue paper and fabric, rather than my usual mulberry paper.

I used coffee dyed copy paper, Southworth Resume, and Parchment paper for journal pages.

The pages with the pocket and belly band are covered using directions from the pattern. The backside and front pocket are covered with fabric held on with Art Glitter Glue. I used coffee-dyed cream lightweight cardstock for the junk journal tags and journal cards, and cut out images of the ladies on the vintage pattern cover to decorate.

The large tags were made with coffee-dyed cream lightweight cardstock. Then stamped with a handwriting stamp and a faux stitching stamp, and partially covered with pattern tissue paper, and decorated. The pocket is covered with fabric and embellished with wooden sewing-themed buttons.

The pocket for the inside back cover is an envelope from MacCall’s Stationery, and the back cover is the back of a card from the same set. The front and back cover, background paper, and decorative embellishments are purchased digitally from Etsy. Overall, it was enjoyable to create this Sewing Themed Junk Journal.
